Book Streets to complement Flower Street
The event, which aims to revive the habit of reading books, will be launched in three downtown locations: Nguyen Hue Boulevard, Mac Thi Buoi Street and Ngo Duc Ke Street.
Titled “Tradition, present and the future,” the streets will feature photographs, documents, and books that provide an overview of the country and people in general and the city in particular.
According to the organizers, each of the three book streets will represent a distinguished period in national history.
The “traditional” street on Mac Thi Buoi will display books on history, tradition and culture as well as photos of Vietnam’s dynasties and Saigon in the past. It will also highlight the country’s sovereignty through generations, especially over Hoang Sa (Paracels) and Truong Sa (Spratlys) of Vietnam.
A section of Nguyen Hue which cuts across Ngo Duc Ke and Mac Thi Buoi streets will be the part that connects the present with the future. New books published by international and local publishers, together with various e-book reader gadgets will be introduced on this section.
The second street will also include the display of special editions of local magazines and newspapers for the Tet holiday together with a photo exhibition featuring Vietnam’s achievements in foreign affairs, and Ho Chi Minh City’s zoning map to 2025.
The Ngo Duc Ke book street will show documents and photographs of projects and buildings in education, health care and recreation for children.
In addition to a children’s book exhibition and traditional, folk games and other activities for kids, a mobile library as well as special books for the blind will also be displayed on the third street.
The 7-day book street fest will also include interaction between readers and authors, calligraphy performances and a coffee space for visitors.
